| Features and Tools in Edge Chromium |
In its latest update, Edge Chromium will have a built-in VPN service that will allow users to make encrypted connections while surfing the Internet without having to install VPN software. Although it is limited (1GB for free accounts per month), it is evidence that Edge Chromium browser is always trying to offer us a new and different experience in the world of browsers.
As if he was trying to make up for the slack in Internet Explorer. As if Microsoft were saying: Sorry about Internet Explorer, we’ll put our best effort and more into Edge Chromium.
The integration of the new VPN technology into the browser reminded us of the range of premium services and tools built into Edge Chromium, and believe it or not, even Google is starting to copy some of these features. So what are these powerful features and advantages in Edge Chromium?
1 – Control your privacy and block annoying ads via Strict
Maintaining privacy may not be an issue for everyone, but improving and enhancing your browsing experience by removing obstacles, annoying ads, inappropriate links and even pop-ups is a powerful feature of a web browser. Edge Chromium provides within its settings the ability to choose 3 different options for the type and experience of browsing:
Basic browsing experience: The normal one you use in any browser, Edge Chromium loads the web page as it is without any modifications to it.
Balanced browsing experience: The browser blocks software related to tracking or tracking of users. In addition to blocking pop-up ads.
Strict browsing experience: Distinctive, as it blocks all types of tracking links of any kind, in addition to completely blocking ads in the browser. However, we do not recommend that you activate it, because it affects some JavaScript code, and some web pages may not load or may load in a distorted way.
2 – Immersive Reader with Read Aloud technology
I think that Google recently copied this feature in the latest versions of the Google Chrome browser, but Edge Chromium was in the race to add it. Immersive Reader is a feature that isolates pages with readable content, for better text control. Think of it like an Instant Article from Facebook or AMP from Google.
To run Immersive Reader, visit any web page with article content (like this article), in the URL Bar window you will find a book icon (or you can click F9) the article will open in a separate page completely isolated (no ads, no Pictures, no videos, no additional content). With the advent of new tools such as making text larger or smaller, coloring fonts, changing font type, and much more.
And if you want to listen to the article instead of reading it, you will find the phrase Read Aloud. Click on the Play option and the answering machine will start reading the article (unfortunately, it does not support Arabic at this time). Thus, you can listen to written articles directly from your web browser.
3 – Save sites, articles and links for quick return via the Collection
The Collection option is different from the Bookmark option, you might think as you first thought they are the same thing, but it’s different. If the Bookmark or Favorite is used to save links to websites, the Collection is used to save anything and everything.
Yes, suppose you were browsing a site for pictures and you liked a picture that you want to use later, there is no need to download it, add it to a new collection called «Photos» and it will always be there. If you need it, go to the Collections list and click on it to download, view or find its source.
Images are just a simple example, you can add text, links, entire web pages, tweets, quotes and anything. If you are browsing Facebook, for example, and you like a specific post, add it to the Collection to return to it later. On a personal note, I use the Collections to save technical news, so that we can share it with you later on our pages on social media platforms.
To use the Collection, click on the Collection option at the top or the shortcut Cntrl + Shift + Y. As for saving content within a web page, it is enough to highlight it or right-click on it to show several options, including Add to Collection. It will be added. It’s like a bookmark for everything, not just websites.
4 – Performance feature to reduce the consumption of computer and battery resources
One of the most famous things that sets Chrome apart from the rest is its unusual consumption of computer resources. Especially if you are using a laptop, as the battery speed also runs like crazy. And if Chrome, through continuous updates, solves the problem, while using it, an unreasonable consumption of computer resources occurs.
Because Edge Chromium is based on the same steps as Google Chrome, some may see that it consumes resources in the same way. Which is wrong. Even Edge has an additional option called Perfomrmance that once you click on it you can enable or disable it.
This option puts an end to the browser’s consumption of the device’s resources by disabling the features that you do not use, disabling almost fake tabs (called Sleeping Tabs) that you have opened and have not used for a while, and more. There are satisfactory results during and before using the Performance feature in terms of consumption of device resources.
5 – Offer coupons and offers while shopping online
Who would say no to some discounts and coupons given to you for free? Microsoft added weeks before the Black Friday offers a very special addition to Edge Chromium, which is the ability to search for coupons or discounts while visiting websites. So that you will see again in the URL Bar a simple text telling you that the Edge browser supports searching for coupons and discounts from this site.
